Tetris Variations:
Tetris The player manipulates falling game pieces ("Tetriminos")
to form horizontal rows of blocks ("Lines"), which are cleared from the play
field ("Matrix"). Points are earned when lines are cleared. Clearing
simultaneous lines earns bonus points. Clearing four lines at once is called a
("Tetris"). Points are also earned when the player rotates a T Tetrimino into a
tight space ("T-spin").
Square Tetris The objectives of Square Tetris are the same as
Tetris, clear lines to earn points. In addition, the player gets a bonus for
creating 4x4 squares ("Squares") out of the falling Tetriminos. Lines cleared
that contain a piece of a Square earn big bonus points. A T-spin coupled with a
line clear will cause certain blocks in the Matrix to fall ("Avalanche").
Cascade Tetris The objectives of Cascade Tetris are the same as Tetris,
clear lines efficiently to earn points. In Cascade Tetris however, clearing a
line causes the individual parts of left over Tetriminos to fall into cells
below a cleared line. When such falling pieces cause another line to form, such
a line will also be cleared ("Cascade"). The more Cascades a player can cause
with one Tetrimino, the bigger the bonus will be.
Sticky Tetris The objective if Sticky Tetris is to dig through the
("Garbage") blocks in the Matrix and clear the blocks in the bottom row of
blocks. When a line is cleared, left over parts of Tetriminos will Cascade.
However, if some part of a Tetrimino comes to rest next to a part of the same
color, they will ("Stick") together. If enough blocks of the same color stick
together they will reach "Critical Mass" and be cleared from the Matrix. When a
player clears the bottom row of garbage, he clears the level.
Hot-Line Tetris The objective of Hot-Line Tetris is to clear lines
in specially marked rows of cells called "Hot-Lines". There are six Hot-Lines
in the Matrix. The higher up in the Matrix a player clears a Hot-Line, the more
points a player gets.
Fusion Tetris The objective of Fusion Tetris is to connect falling
blocks called "Atom Blocks" to the "Fusion Block" hidden beneath the Garbage at
the beginning of the game. Clearing a line containing an Atom Block causes a
cascade.
